다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The paper analyses special characteristics of Karel Čapeks dramas from the point of view of functions and roles of the dramatic character rather than of common types and features of the dramatic character.
First, the way in which the dramatic character functions in the whole structure is shown. Čapek often uses method of contrast in the structure, such as man versus woman or old generation versus young one, etc. Such structure of contrast occurs in various plays and in various parts. In terms of the generation contrast, it is quite frequent. It reveals what opinions both generations have to different notions, such as to love, ideology, social situation, etc. and how those opinions differ.
Another characteristic of the dramatic character is linked with figures performing side or small roles that do not concern main line. Firstly, it is the function of portent mentioning or explaining what happened before the play or what is going to happen in future. K. Čapek uses such function often and in his dramas there are many characters. Those individual characters were not chosen in this paper but only a group of people who are very similar to the chorus in the ancient drama. Secondly, the function of dramatic character is deixis to fantasy. The character is not physically present in the play but only in dialogues therefore quite lot readers fantasy is expected. Such notion was used by J. Honzl in Bohemia and K. Čapek used it in his plays often in various shapes and forms, and sometimes it has an important role.
