FTA 시장개방의 노동시장 영향 분석

The government of Korea is promoting a bilateral FTA with US since early 2006, and it is considering FTAs with China and Japan, although the negotiation for a Korea-Japan FTA was suspended in November 2004. However, new Japanese Prime Minister Sinzo Abe tries to improve political relations with Korea and there is some chance that Korea resumes the negotiation for a FTA with Japan. China has been waiting the formal promotion of a FTA with Korea since Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jabao officially proposed a FTA to his Korean counter partner.
This paper tries to evaluate bilateral FTAs with US, China and Japan, based on the impact of the FT As on Korean manufacturing labor market. According to the analysis result, the bilateral FTAs with US and China are likely to create substantial numbers of new jobs in Korean manufacturing sector, while job losses are expected under a FTA with Japan. If evaluated with the impact on labor market assuming Korea achieve a FTA with US, it can be said that a FTA with China will be economically desirable than with Japan.
