This study comprehensively examines the production environment shifts and the state of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) in the Korean television drama industry from 2016 to 2019. This period witnessed multilayered transformations such as the disruption of the terrestrial broadcaster-centered system, expansion of pre-produced dramas, diversification of genres, rise in production budgets, and the expansion of global pre-sales, following the entry of global OTT platforms like Netflix into the Korean market. Landmark productions such as Kingdom exemplify these changes, marking a pivotal shift toward targeting global audiences. However, new challenges such as increased dependency on global platforms, genre concentration, and the dilution of cultural specificity also emerged. This study critically analyzes the duality of these structural changes and aims to suggest strategic directions for the Korean drama industry's future sustainability and preservation of its unique identity.
