『오대진언(五大眞言)』에 나타난 사십이수인(四十二手印)에 관한 연구 = A Study on 42mudras in the five great mantras

국문 초록 (Abstract)

5개의 큰 진언을 모아놓았다는 뜻의 ‘오대진언’은 조선조 성종 16년(成化 21, 乙巳, 1485 A.D.)에 仁粹大妃 韓氏가 일반 민중들의 진언 誦習을 위해 梵文의 한자 대역에 다시 正音字로 音譯을 붙여서『오대진언』으로 간행한다. 여기에는 가장 영험이 있다고 믿어졌던 다라니를 수록하고 있는데, 그것은 ①千手千眼觀自在菩薩廣大圓滿無得大悲心大陁羅, ②千手千眼觀自在菩薩廣大圓滿無碍大悲心神妙章句大陁羅尼, ③千手千眼觀自在菩薩根本陁羅尼, ④佛說一切如來普遍光明燄鬘淸淨熾盛思惟如意寳印心無能勝摠持大隨求大明王大陁羅尼, ⑤大佛頂陁羅尼, ⑥佛頂尊勝陁羅尼 등이다. 이 중에서 ①千手千眼觀自在菩薩廣大圓滿無導大悲心大陁羅에 觀世音菩薩四十二手眞言이 42가지의 手印圖와 진언이 각각의 수인의 영험·실담자 표기·한글음역·한자음역의 순으로 倂記되어 있다.
이러한 42수인의 底本으로는 셋 혹은 넷의 경전을 들 수 있다. 하나는 40수인과 그 명칭만 나타난 伽梵達摩의 『千手千眼觀世音菩薩廣大圓滿無碍大悲心陀羅尼經』을 들 수 있는데, 40수인까지는 그 명칭과 순서 및 영험을 따르고 있으며, 또 다른 하나는 41수인의 명칭과 수인도를 나타내고 있는 불공 역의『千手千眼觀世音菩薩大悲心陀羅尼』에서도 명칭과 영험 등을 따르지만 수인의 순서와 수인도의 형상은 같지 않다. 그렇지만 불공의 맨 처음으로 나타난 수인인 ‘甘露手印’을『오대진언』에는 41번째의 手眞言으로 가져온 것이 특이하다. 그리고 마지막 42수인인 ‘觀世音菩薩摠攝千臂眞言’은 가범달마나 불공역에는 나타나고 있지 않다. 결국 이 42번째의 수진언은 智通譯의『千眼千臂觀世音菩薩陀羅尼神呪經』또는 菩提流志譯의 『千手千眼觀世音菩薩姥陀羅尼身經』에서 그 명칭을 가져왔으며, 수인도는 이들 經句에서 설해진 것을 도상으로 具顯하여『오대진언』의 총 42수인을 완성했던 것으로 보인다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There is a collection of five great mantra. It had been published the five great [『五大眞言』] at the Chosun Dynasty Seongjong 16(A.D.1485) by Insu-daebi Han family(仁粹大妃 韓氏）for learn to memorize the mantra for the general public. It was composed of Indian character[悉曇文字]·Hangeul[한글]·translated into Chinese character. There had been believed that the miracle is to be recorded dharani. There are comprised of ①千手千眼觀自在菩薩廣大圓滿無得大悲心大陁羅, ②千手千眼觀自在菩薩廣大圓滿無碍大悲心神妙章句大陁羅尼, ③千手千眼觀自在菩薩根本陁羅尼, ④佛說一切如來普遍光明燄鬘淸淨熾盛思惟如意寶印心無能勝摠持大隨求大明王大陁羅尼, ⑤大佛頂附羅尼, ⑥佛頂尊勝陁羅尼. There is note miracle of each mudra, Indian character·Hangeul[한글]·translated into Chinese character at the Avalokitesvara's pictures of 42mudras and mantra.
This pictures are the basis of three or four sutras. One, it is the Sahasrabhuja-sahasranetra-Avalokitesvara-mahakarunikacitta-dharani translated by Bhagavat-dharma(伽梵達摩). There are 42mudras and their names, 40mudras by its name and following the procedure and effectiveness. Another, it is Sahasrabhuja-sahasranetra-Avalokitesvara-mahakarunikacitta-dharani translated by Amoghavajra(不空). There are 41mudras, their names and pictures of 41mudras and mantra. This pictures of the five great mantras follows 41mudras by its name and following the effectiveness but they are not equal the procedure and shape of mudras. Unusually, the 1st mudra ‘甘露手印’ at Amoghavajra’s sutra is the same as the 41st mudra at the five great mantras, and the last 42st mudra, that is ‘觀世音菩薩摠攝千臂眞言’, does not appear in two sutras translated by Bhagavat-dharma and Amoghavajra. Its name comes out of the Sahasrabhuja-sahasranetra-Avalokitesvara-dharani mantra translated by 智通 or Sahasrabhuja-sahasranetra-Avalokitesvara-vrddhi dharani kaya translated by Bodhiruci(菩提流志), and said that as shown in the pictures of mudra in the two sutras. Finally, it seems to be complete 42mudras of the five great mantras that its name and miracle is basis on the four sutras.
