국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글에서 나는 사진의 투명성과 개인 양식의 양립 가능성을 검토한다. 사진은 투명한 매체로 알려져 있지만, 사진이 예술인 한에서는 유관한 양식적 특징도 가질 것으로 기대된다. 그러나 매체의 불투명성이 양식적 특징을 형성하는 중요한 요소라면 투명성과 양식은 양립 가능하지 않은 것 같다. 나는 스크러튼의 관점을 기초로 하여 ‘양식 부재 논증’을 구성하고, 이 논증의 건전성을 문제 삼는 방식으로 사진이 개인 양식을 가질 논리적 가능성의 공간을 탐색한다. 나는 이러한 가능성 가운데 적어도 로페즈와 월튼의 관점은 사진이 개인 양식을 가질 수 있음을 강력하게 시사한다고 주장한다.

In this paper, I investigate the compatibility between the transparency inherent in photography and its expression of individual style. Photography is commonly perceived as a medium of transparency, yet it is also expected to embody distinctive stylistic characteristics as an art form. However, it seems improbable that the transparency inherent in photography aligns seamlessly with its stylistic attributes, as the non-transparency inherent in the medium plays a pivotal role in shaping its distinctive stylistic features in some arts. Drawing upon Scruton's perspective, I articulate the argument for the absence of style in photography. Subsequently, I delve into the logical framework by challenging the soundness of this argument. Through an examination of viewpoints posited by the champions for the presence of style in photography, I contend that Lopes’s and Walton’s perspectives strongly suggest the existence of individual styles within photography.
