한국 노인의 후각 역치와 삶의 질 간의 관계 = Relationship between the olfactory threshold and geriatric quality of life in the Korean elderly

Objectives of this study were to search the olfactory threshold of the Korean elderly and to study on the influences of the olfactory threshold on the depression and the geriatric quality of life. A total 75 subjects older than 65 in Daejeon city were surveyed. The olfactory threshold of the elderly was measured by T&T olfactometer and the degression degree and the life quality were evaluated by the Korean version of GDS(Geriatric Depression Scale) and GQOL(Geriatric Quality of Life scale), respectively. The depression degree and the geriatric quality of life were not significant with the degree of impaired olfactory function. There are two suggestions as follows. First, the olfactory threshold does not necessarily affect the depression and the reduction of life quality. Second, the social activity and psychological aspects can be more powerful than the impairment of olfactory function for the depression and the geriatric quality of life in the elderly.
