A study of personal motivation and recreational experiences

The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between recreational golfers' goal orientation and flow experiences. this study was based on goal theory (Ames, 1984, 1992) and csikszentmihalyi's model of flow theory(1975).
The study was based on a sample of 91 out of 117 recreational golfers. Task and ego orientation in sport questionnaire(Duda, 1989, 1992; Duda & Nicnolls, 1989) and jackson's (1988, 1992) 11 Characteristics of flow were used in survey.
The results showed Task-oriented golfers would experience higher levels of flow than those who were ego-orientated. Also, male golfers had higher level of flow experiences than female golfers. This results indicated that task-orientated golfers were more likely to enjoy the game than ego oriented golfers.
