According to research on the behavior of the elderly, it has been found that the mobility range tends to decrease with age, and older individuals tend to center their activities around the bedroom or living room. Therefore, improvements in spatial structure for elderly living spaces should focus on enhancing convenience for movement and daily activities, particularly around the living room or bedroom. The purpose of this study is to investigate the improvement of the spatial structure centered on the main use space through the spatial structure analysis of the elderly residential space. The scope of the study is the remodeling of residential spaces for the elderly. The research method is as follows. First, a literature review on housing for the elderly is conducted. Second, a case study was performed on 12 elderly residences located in Myeon, Gangneung-si. Third, Convex analysis of space syntax is accomplished to find out the hierarchy of residential space. Finally, the user-based residential integrated remodeling plan is presented. The conclusion of the study is as follows. In order to minimize the movement of the elderly and make space use more convenient, the accessibility and connectivity of frequently used spaces such as the living room, master bedroom, and kitchen, such as bathrooms and closets, is increased. There are three ways to improve the spatial structure, focusing on the main space used. 1) It increases connectivity by changing the position of the door. 2) The wall is removed to integrate the kitchen and living room to increase the accessibility of the space. Without a living room, using a space with high integration as a living room can also be a reasonable solution. 3) If the spatial depth of functions that require adjacent placement, such as the master bedroom and bathroom, is deep, the location can be changed and placed adjacent to reduce step depth.
