청소년의 중증장애인 대상 자원봉사활동 참여 경험과 의미에 대한 사례연구 = A Case Study on the Experience and Meaning of Adolescents Participation in Volunteer Activities for the Severely Disabled People

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 중증장애인을 대상으로 한 자원봉사활동에 참여하는 청소년들의 자원봉사활동 참여 경험을 살펴보고, 그 과정에서 장애 인식에 어떠한 변화를 보이는지 살펴보고자 수행되었다.
이 연구 목적을 알아보기 위한 구체적인 연구문제는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 청소년들의 장애인 대상 자원봉사활동 참여 동기는 무엇인가?
둘째, 청소년들은 장애인 대상 자원봉사활동을 참여하면서 어떠한 경험을 하는가?
본 연구를 탐구하기 위해, 경기도 H시에 위치한 무의탁 중증장애인 양육 및 선교 민간 복지시설에서 3년 이상 중증장애인 대상으로 자원봉사활동에 참여해 온 청소년 자원봉사자 5명을 대상으로 연구를 진행하였다. 연구방법은 참여관찰법과 심층면담을 이용하였다.
본 연구문제를 토대로 나타난 결과를 바탕으로 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 중증장애인 대상 자원봉사활동을 참여하게 된 동기는 입시로 인한 봉사점수 취득 목적, 교육 차원에서 부모의 권유로 시작, 신앙심으로 시작, 도움이 필요한 곳이라는 생각으로 시작 등으로 나타났다. 참여자들의 참여 동기는 조금씩 다르지만, 자원봉사활동을 단순히 남을 도와주는 일차적인 활동으로만 인식하지 않고 함께하며 그들을 이해하고 그들과 소통하고자 하는 마음임을 알 수 있었다.
둘째, 참여자들의 자원봉사활동에 참여한 경험의 내용은 다음과 같다.
자원봉사활동에서 겪는 어려움과 아쉬움으로 참여자 역할의 단조로움, 중증장애인 특성상 소통의 어려움, 중증장애인에 대한 지식의 부족, 실질적 도움보다는 방관자적인 역할 수행을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 자원봉사활동에서 느끼는 기쁨과 보람의 모습을 볼 수 있었다.
셋째, 참여자들의 자원봉사활동 참여 경험을 통한 변화 내용은 참여 동기 변화, 중증장애인에 대한 인식 변화, 책임감과 존중하는 마음을 이야기하였다. 대부분의 봉사 참여자들은 입시를 위한 목적으로 봉사 참여를 활발하게 진행하고 있었지만, 봉사활동 경험을 통해 내면적 변화를 드러내기에는 한계가 있었다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 청소년 참여자들은 대부분 처음에 대했던 마음가짐과 달리 장애에 대한 새로운 인식을 얻었다는 것이 드러났다. 장애인에 대한 편견이 줄고, 장애인과 거리감을 없애게 되었으며 장애인을 돕고 존중하려는 태도를 갖게 되고 책임감이 늘어 자신의 꿈을 더 알차게 가꿔가는 계기가 되었다고 이야기하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was conducted to examine the activity participation experiences of adolescents who participate in volunteer activities for the severely handicapped, and to examine any changes in perception of disability in the process.
Specific research questions to find out the purpose of this study are as follows.
First, what are the motivations for youths to participate in volunteer activities for the disabled?
Second, what experiences do youths have while participating in volunteer activities for the disabled?
To explore this study, a study was conducted on 5 youth volunteers who have participated in volunteer activities for about 3 years with 21 people with severe disabilities for 3 years or more at a private welfare facility for nurturing and missionary work for the severely disabled in H city, Gyeonggi-do. Proceeded. Participation observation and in-depth interview were used as the research method.
The conclusions of the study according to this research question are as follows.
First, the motives for participating in volunteer activities for the severely handicapped were the purpose of obtaining a service score from the entrance examination, starting with the recommendation of parents in terms of education, starting with faith, and starting with the idea that help is needed. Participants' motives for participation are slightly different, but volunteer activities are not simply recognized as primary activities to help others, but they understand their desire to understand and communicate with them.
Second, the contents of the participants' experiences of participating in volunteer activities are as follows.
Due to the difficulties and regrets encountered in volunteer activities, it was found that the role of participants was monotonous, difficulty in communication due to the nature of the severely handicapped, lack of knowledge about the severely handicapped, and bystander rather than actual help. And I was able to see the joy and reward I felt in volunteer activities.
Third, the participants' participation in the voluntary activity process and a change process to understand the disabled, the change in motivation for participation, the change in perception of the severely handicapped, and a sense of responsibility and respect were discussed. Most of the volunteers were active because they occupied a large part in relation to academic performance, but there were very few parts that really touched the skin. However, it was revealed that most of the youth participants gained a new perception of disability, unlike their initial attitude. He said that the prejudice toward the disabled has decreased, the sense of distance from the disabled has been eliminated, the attitude to help and respect for the disabled has been developed, and the sense of responsibility has increased, which has been an opportunity to enrich their dreams.
