Purpose : An anatomical knee is a type in which the gap between the knees is greater than the normal gap and the knee do not stick together. The cause of genu varum is muscle weakness due to repetitive bad posture, lifestyle, or lack of exercise. The objective of this study is to compare the effects of squats using a ball and narrow squats, and to find out the effect of improving the hunch by checking the thickness of the meat, the Q angle, and the gap between the knees.
Methods : This study was performed on 26 subjects. They were divided into two groups; ball-based squats (n=13), narrow squats (n=13). Both of group executed the exercise 3 times a week for 4 weeks. This material was analyzed by the paired t-test to compare differences pre and post intervention on each group and the independent t-test to compare between the two groups.
Results : The results was like this. In both groups, the thickness of the vastus lateralis and vastus medialis and rectus femoris significantly improved after the intervention, and the gap between the knees also significantly decreased (p<.05). There was no significant difference in variation of the Q-angle between the two groups. On the other hand, there was no significant defference in Q-anlge, gap between the knees and muscle thickness variation between groups.
Conclusion : As a results of this study, the muscle thickness of the quadriceps muscle and the gap between the knees were significantly improved and the there was no significant difference in the Q angle in both groups. Take together, the above results suggest that squat exercise using a ball and narrow squat exercise may have a positive effect on changes in muscle thickness and reduction of the gap between the knees in subjects with genu varum.
