The Institution of Registered Cultural Properties is an institution of protecting cultural properties depending on owner's voluntary protection, compare than the Institution of The Appointed Cultural Properties, which are the principles of freezing preservation. In that reason, the inner spaces of the Registered Cultural roperties has been changed with the needs of owners after registration. Since the Registered Cultural Properties are qualified potentiallyas the Appointed Cultural Properties, so it needs to have the worth as the Appted Cultural Properties architecturally. The core of architectural worth is in spaces, of course. The spaces in modern buildings have clear ideas that are distinguishing from existing architectures, and that is why tey are more important. Also, so many researchers before focused only on the areas of designs, styles, or structures, so it was impossible to form a discussion of she importance of spaces of modern architectures and how to preserve them.
This research starts from these needs, and on the basis of researching the spaces of modern buildings, and
this research now is going to search the answers to conserve spaces.
To do this, I researched the present condition of conserving spaces with 50 buildings as the Registered Culural Properties. As a result, only 34%, 17 cases out of 50 buildings were conserved as original forms and sementing, merging, adding or losing some parts of the buildings seriously destroyed the rest of them. Depending on service, it was proved that public offices, business offices, medical facilitis, and financial facilities were more destroyed compared than religious facilities or accommodating facilitis.
Next, based on the research result, a research that is sorting those buildings by space types, and searching the way to conserve spaces well, was performed. As a result, they were sorted by 10 space types, and I could get three results to find the ways of conserving them,
First, it was verified that if owners keeps the use, from the beginning to the end, or it transfers to a faility with similar purposes, it is possible to conserve spaces better.
Second, if we set the range of applying levels for the registered cultural properties, depending on spaces, whether they are conserved or not, we can see the possibilities to conserve them with potential qualificatin of the appointed cultural properties while applying reuse of the registered cultural proper
ties.
Third, if a building transfers in the similar type of purpose among the type
s of spaces, it is possible to conserve spaces, since the range of change is not wide.
