로봇의 도덕적 지위에 대한 하나의 답변－윤리적 행동주의에 대한 비판적 소고－ = A Response to the Moral Status of AI Robot A Criticism on Ethical Behaviorism

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 로봇에게 도덕적 수용자로서의 지위를 부여하는 시도 중 하나인 윤리적 행동주의를 비판적으로 검토한다. 이미 상당한 도덕적 지위를 부여받은 어떤 존재와 그행동이 대략적으로 동등한 로봇에게 그 존재와 동등한 도덕적 지위를 부여해야만 한다고 윤리적 행동주의는 말한다. 이 이론에 대해 필자는 크게 2가지 측면에서 비판을 제기한다. 먼저 ‘비교의 원칙’에 대해 비판한다. 우선 로봇의 도덕적 지위를 판단하기 위하여 특정한 기준에 따라 행위의 패턴이 선택될 필요가 있다는 사실은 결국 ‘비교’가불필요하다는 것을 드러내며, 조작의 위험에 이 원칙이 노출되어 있다는 점 역시 여기에서 확인된다. 이어서 방법론적 행동주의의 한계를 지적한다. 우선 로봇의 존재론적특성에 대한 고려 없이 로봇이 보이는 행동에만 주목하는 방식으로는 로봇에게 올바른도덕적 지위를 부여할 수 없고, 로봇이 형이상학적 속성을 갖고 있는가에 대해 중립적인 채 행동에만 주목하라는 요구도 부당하다. 또한 방법론적 행동주의는 기만의 문제를 충분히 고려하지 못하고 미포괄성 문제를 낳는다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper critically engages in John Danaher’s ‘Ethical Behaviorism’, a theory on on determining the moral standing of robots. According to this theory, if a robot behaves sufficiently similar to an entity that already has a significant moral standing, the same moral standing of this entity should be ascribed to this robot. This paper assesses this theory by making a couple of points. To begin with, this paper criticizes the principle of analogy, by maintaining that, strictly speaking, Ethical Behaviorism relies on the best explanation inference rather than the analogical reasoning and that this theory is at risk of being “gamed”.
Additionally, this paper argues against Methodological Behaviorism by claiming the following four points: (1) the impossibility of being neutral to a robot’s metaphysical property; (2) the necessity to consider the ontological feature of a robot; (3) the problem of deception; (4) the underinclusivity problem.
