음악과 복음전도: K컬쳐 시대 기독교 음악의 현실과 전망 = Music and Evangelism: The Reality and Prospects of Christian Music in the Era of K-Culture

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문의 목적은 음악과 복음전도와의 관계를 살피고, K컬쳐라는 새로운 환경과 맥락을 함께 하는 현 시대 기독교음악의 현실을 분석하여, 복음주의에 맞는 음악의 전도사역을 위한 방향성을 모색하고자 함이다. 전세계의 공용어인 음악이라는 예술장르의 미학적 특성과, 모든 사람은 복음이 필요하다는 명제의 교집합을 성경과 신학 안에서 발견하고자 했다. 첫 번째 장에서는 성경에 나타난 음악과 시의 역할을 통해 복음을 전하는 훌륭한 도구이자 또 다른 언어가 될 수 있음을 언급하고, 성령의 역사와 찬양의 긴밀한 관계의 가능성을 음악을 통한 “인간의 감정”과 “연합”의 관점으로 풀어간다. 또한 음악의 기독교 “반정립”에 의거한 특별은총과 일반은총의 개념을 통해 “기독교음악”의 범위와 본질적 의미를 찾아간다. 두 번째 장에서는 한국대중문화음악의 현상과 겹쳐지고 있는 현대기독교음악의 모습을 분석해, 기독교음악의 “마이크로트렌드”가 어떤 양상으로 펼쳐지고 있는지 살펴본다. 이를 토대로 복음전도를 위한 음악 사역의 방향성을 제시함에 있어. (1) 음악을 통한 복음전도는 문화를 무시할 수 없으며, (2) 객관적 복음 진리와 주관적 경험과 감정, 양쪽 모두의 자리가 필요하고, (3) 직접적 복음전도와 간접적 복음전도, 양쪽 모두의 자리가 있으며, (4) 음악의 고유성을 이해하는 것이 필요함을 제안한다.

This study examines the role of psalms and prayer in the spirituality of the 17th century Puritans to offer the right foundation for the direction of today’s church music and praise, as they face cultural problematic tasks.
Therefore, this study traces the Puritan’s firm belief in the music philosophy and the singing of psalms which are found in the mid-sixteenth to mid-seventeen century England, which was the period of decline in church music, and right before the birth of hymn story. It provides an understanding of the role of prayer which poems used as personal meditations and illuminate the inner piety—the essential role of hymns. By studying the role of the psalms and several hymns attached to the Psalter’s book, as well as the meaning of metrical Psalms, the only song that the Puritans allowed their congregation to sing. The study will explore the explanation for their concerns and unique understanding of the Psalm singing, as well as the inevitability of the development of spiritual poetry. Seeking to play a role as a worthy and spiritual guidance to move forward, this study re-examines the power of the Psalm singing and discusses its theological conflict with music by drawing valuable conclusions about the role of singing hymns in personal piety, seeking to find the spiritual and healthy guidelines for modern church music and praise as it faces current generation issues. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between music and evangelism, analyze the current reality of Christian music in the contemporary context of K-culture, and explore the direction for evangelistic music in line with the gospel mission. The aim was to discover the intersection of the aesthetic characteristics of the artistic genre of music, which is a universal language worldwide, with the proposition that all people need the gospel within the context of the Bible and theology. In the first chapter, it is mentioned that music can be an excellent tool for evangelism and another language through its role in the Bible as well as in poetry, and it explores the possibility of the close relationship between the history of the Holy Spirit and praise through the perspective of “human emotions” and “unity” through music. Furthermore, based on the Christian “antiestablishment” of music, it seeks to find the scope and essential meaning of “Christian music” through the concept of particular and general grace. In the second chapter, it analyzes the appearance of contemporary Christian music in Korea, which overlaps with the phenomenon of popular culture music, and examines how the “micro-trends” of Christian music are unfolding in what ways. Based on this, in proposing the direction of music ministry for evangelism, it suggests that (1) evangelism through music cannot ignore culture, (2) both objective gospel truth and subjective experience and emotion are needed, (3) there is a place for both direct and indirect evangelism through music, and (4) understanding the uniqueness of music is necessary.
