The purpose of this study is to illuminate literary exchange between Ching Dynasty and Joseon during 18th century through 『Yeolha Ilgi』 and its complicated influence on Joseon literature afterwards. Park Jiwon faced a significant amount of changes and formed complex impactful relationships through the academical and personal interaction between scholars and intellectuals like Hong Daeyong, Lee Dukmoo, Park Jega, Yu Deukgong during Yeonhaeng. He emphasized in his writings the need for widespread learning and taking the value of free thought and ideas and advanced literature and culture he had experienced through Yeonhaeng. The products of advanced culture propagated in the 18th century had a big impact on people’s lives of Joseon. It’s because we should study the process of Park Jiwon’s ideological searching.
As is well known, literature figures out the measurements for different values playing the roles as the basis for the exchange between two countries. This paper aims to try to reveal Ching’s variety cultural products and creature of the times adapted by Park Jiwon with his own taste. It also can be examined how the above literary interaction and characteristic domestication of Ching literature by Joseon influenced the recognition of its own literature.
It is expected hopefully to demonstrate here that Park Jiwon’s individual literary activities can be systematically connected mediating one another and examine their corelation with Joseon and Ching. It’s also seen his philosophy had an effect profoundly through 『Yeolha Ilgi』 served as a momentum, the firsthand stimulus for various cultural exchange, and influenced throughout Joseon society. The external stimulus to an independent literary could be result in another trend of literature.
