Dazai Osamu is a modern writer who, on the basis of delicate sensibilities, thoroughly explored his self consciousness and represented it in his literature. He sought to disclose the problem of what a human being is, and he presented the problem of alienation through the case of Yojo, the hero of 「Human Disqualification.」
This age can be called the age of human loss in thai "a man cannot be his own self. and cannot but be a stranger in the world in which he lives." 「Human Disqualification」 discribes the process of Yojo becoming a ruined outcast, who failed to understand the practical world and form a normal relation to the society.
This thesis aims at examining the meaning of the title and the theme of 「Human Disqualification」 and Yojo's mental world according to its unique structure-Preface, the 1st note, the 2nd note, the 3rd note, and Epiloque-as well as in its contrastic relation between the practical world and the ideal world.
The hero is, after all, a ruined outcast. But the author intended, through him, to reveal paradoxically the falsity and deception of the society.
