Clinical observations was made on 75 cases of Rodenticidal intoxication studied in Department of Internal Medicine, Woo Sok University Hospital from Jan. 1967 to Aug. 1970.
The following results were obtained;
1. Fluoride poisoning 53 cases (70.7%), Phosphorus poisoning 6 cases (8.0%), Arsenic poisoning 3 cases (4.0%) and unknown rodenticidal poisoning 13 cases (17.3%) were observed in this series.
2. The rodenticidal poisoning accounts for 10% of all drug poisoning at Department of Internal Medicine, Woo Sok University Hospital during the years from Jan. 1967. to Aug. 1970.
Case distributions during years are follows;
15 cases in 1967, 10 cases in 1969, 21 cases in 1969 and 29 cases in 1970. Thus, the incidence of rodenticidal poisoning seems to increase recently.
3. On seasonal prevalence, the disease was most common in Spring, espicially February and June.
4. Female was affected in 1.8 times more than male.
5. On age of the patients in this series, the peak incidence was between 20 and 29.
6. Clinical manifestations in this series, the nausea and vomiting (56.0%), abdominal pain (49.3%) were most common such as gastro-intestinal- disturbances and C.N.S. disturbances observed in 78.7% such as drowsiness, excitability, restlessness and unconsciousness. Tetanic convulsion appeared after ingestion of Fluoride solution.
7. As to the therapeutic results of rodenticidal poisoning, We got clinical recovery in 65 cases (86.7%) and 10 cases expired (13.3%) and the causes of poisoning were for suicidal attempt in 100%.
