That we are by baptism "instrumentally grafted into the church"--if the Church be here considered as the visible Body of Christ--is evident, and universally admitted. By nature, we belong to "the wild olive-tree;" through this Sacrament, we are grafted into the "good olive-tree." By birth, under the curse of God, banished from His vineyard, we are thus planted in His garden--where the dews and showers of His grace descend, where the sun of righteousness shines, and where there is a possibility of our growing to that stature which "trees of the Lord's planting" should attain, and producing that fruit which they should bear.
