In travelling through the rural districts of our happy isle, we must all, especially the lover of true native scenery, have regarded as emblems of national pride, the well-timbered parks and stately mansions of our aristocracy, so peculiarly the characteristics of old England. With what eagerness does the eye run over the undulating green sward, or through the dark avenue of oak or elm that leads from the lodge gate to the hall, to catch a peep of the time-grey turrets as they rise proudly to the view; and who among us, through whose veins the least drop of British blood flows, can stifle the feelings of pride and admiration which he must experience when he sees "the flag that braved a thousand years the battle and the breeze" floating lazily over the castellated turrets of the old building, and marks the air of quiet grandeur which encircles like a halo the precincts of the Park?
