The purpose of this study was to analyze the operation performance and improvement of school liaisons and advisory committee.
To achieve the purposes, the research questions were as follows:
1. How the school liaisons and advisory committee members recognize the operation status of the committee?
2. How the school liaisons and advisory committee members recognize the operation performance of the committee?
3. what the school liaisons and advisory committee members recognize the points at issue in the operation status of the committee?
4. How the school liaisons and advisory committee members appreciate for the improvement of school liaisons and advisory committee system?
To identify the research questions, 6 elementary schools 15 secondary schools in a city area of Chon-Buk were selected randomly by each condition of region and school grade.
The 200 questionnaires were gathered and were analysed by means of the electornic data processing program SPSS/PC WIN 11.5. The statistical methods employed to test investigative subjects included χ2 test by cross tabs analysis.
The major findings of this study were as follows.
First, The findings of recognition about the operation status of the committee were summarized as follows:
1. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that they consider the companion and co-worker role in school liaisons and advisory committee roles as the most important part of school liaisons and advisory committee roles. However, this findings of recognition about school liaisons and advisory committee roles was no statistically significant differences in sex, age, region, school grade, school liaisons and advisory committee level.
2. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that they reflect the will of the people in education community under consideration process.
3. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that they actively take part in the meeting of school liaisons and advisory committee. This findings of recognition was statistically significant differences in age level(p<.05).
4. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that they stick by the principle of school liaisons and advisory committee. This findings of recognition was statistically significant differences in age level(p<.01).
5. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that they declare their intention for school liaisons and advisory committee meeting.
6. The school liaisons and advisory committee members appreciated the need of questionnaire for parents of students and school personnel. This findings of appreciation was statistically significant differences in sex, age, school grade, he native level of school liaisons and advisory committee(p<.05).
7. The school liaisons and advisory committee members appreciated that some subcommittes in school liaisons and advisory committee is laid down and operated .
8. The school liaisons and advisory committee members appreciated that they consider the clarity of execution of the budget. This findings of appreciation was statistically significant differences among the native level of school liaisons and advisory committee(p<.05).
Second, the findings of recognition about the operation performance of the committee were summarized as follows:
1. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that the introduction of school liaisons and advisory committee have contributed to change the principal centered decision making system into the educational community system that teacher and parents of students take part in decision making. This findings of recognition was statistically significant differences in school grade level of the school liaisons and advisory committee(p<.05).
2. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that the school liaisons and advisory committee school liaisons and advisory committee have contributed to improve the autonomy of schools. This findings of recognition was statistically significant differences in sex, school grade level of the school liaisons and advisory committee(p<.05).
3. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that they have striven to attain with a sense of responsibility the matters for resolution which the school liaisons and advisory committee came to a decision, to improve the educational community consciousness.
4. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that the school liaisons and advisory committee have contributed to promote the qualities of school education. This findings of recognition was statistically significant differences between city and county school liaisons and advisory committee members(p<.05).
5. The school liaisons and advisory committee members recognized that the school liaisons and advisory committee have reviewed and decided democratically the important matters in school management. This findings of recognition was statistically significant differences among age level (p<.05)
Third, the findings of recognition about the points at issue in the operation status of the liaisons and advisory committee were summarized as follows:
1. The school liaisons and advisory committee members appeared that they have no difficulty in reviewing the new curriculum.
2. The school liaisons and advisory committee members showed that they have a difficulty in reviewing the proposal items because of a poor specificity.
3. The school liaisons and advisory committee members appeared that they have no difficulty in accepting the principal as school liaisons and advisory committee member. However, this findings of recognition was statistically significant differences among school grade level and the native level of school liaisons and advisory committee(p<.05)
4. The school liaisons and advisory committee members appeared that they have no difficulty in accepting the head of general affairs as s school liaisons and advisory committee secretary.
Fourth, the findings of appreciation for the improvement programs of school liaisons and advisory committee were summarized as follows:
1. The school liaisons and advisory committee members showed the response that the principal must become a member of school liaisons and advisory committee same as at present, and the head of general affairs must become the secretary of school liaisons and advisory committee.
2. The school liaisons and advisory committee members showed the response that teacher members of the school liaisons and advisory committee must be selected with qualifications.
3. The school liaisons and advisory committee members showed the response that they must meet the requirements to revitalize school liaisons and advisory committee, for example, training and workshop to promote specificity, making a circumstance to convergence different opinions among educational community.
From the findings of this study, several implication for practice and future research were discussed about the improvement of school liaisons and advisory committee system.
