직업상담사의 직업선택과정에서 ‘계획된 우연’의 역할 = The role of ‘Planned Happenstance’ in the process of choosing occupation of Vocational Counselors

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores the role of ‘planned happencetance’ in the process of choosing vocational counselor by qualitative research. This was intended to overcome the limit of traditional career counselling theories which have placed emphasis on rational choice and look into the context through the happenstance learning theory. Because vocational counselor has not shown the vision and information, the role of happencetance might be huge. Fifteen vocational counselors who entered the field in the beginning were performed through in-depth interview. ‘Planned happenstance’ affected their career in choosing the job and the patterns were unexpected information collection, accidental training through media and significant others, unexpected condition and personal change. In the process of changing planned happencetance to chance, many kinds of skills such as curiosity, persistence, flexibility, optimism, risk-taking were found.
Some participants interpreted the planned happenstance as positive or negative aspect. The implication of this study empirically shows the important role of planned happencetance in choosing the new job.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 직업상담사를 선택하는 과정에서 ‘계획된 우연’의 역할을 질적 연구를 통해 분석하였다. 합리적이고 이성적 선택을 강조하는 진로상담이론의 한계를 극복하고 다양한 진로결정과정에서의 요인을 우연 학습이론을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 우리나라의 직업상담사 제도가 도입되면서 직업에 대한 정보와 비전 등이 명확하지 않은 상황에서 ‘계획된 우연’의 영향이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 직업상담사라는 자격증이 신설되고 비슷한 직무가 생성되는 초기에 진입했던 직업상담사 15명을 심층면담 하였다. 연구 참여자들은 우연적 사건으로 직업상담사를 선택하였고 그 요인은 사람과 매체를 통한 우연한 정보수집, 계획하지 않았던 교육, 예상치 못한 환경과 개인상황 변화 등으로 분석되었다. 그 과정에서 우연을 기회로 활용하는 데 유용한 기술인 낙관성, 유연성, 호기심, 위험감수, 인내심 등이 직업선택과정에서 나타났다. 또한, 우연을 긍정적으로 혹은 부정적으로 의미화하는 맥락이 발견되었다. 본 연구는 진로선택과정에서 ‘계획된 우연’의 역할을 실증적으로 탐색하였다는데 그 의의가 있다.
