For the purpose of simulation of vehicle dynamics, a physical model of an automotive shock absorber (damper) was developed and implemented in ADAMS/Car. As well as nonlinear characteristics of force vs. speed, a model with transient pressure and flow rate equations was subroutine-linked for precise damping performance prediction. An exciter model, as a test-rig, that generates velocities between both ends of the damper was built to measure damping reaction force.
