성인들의 과학문화 활동 경험에서 나타난 과학 관련 태도 -과학소설 독서토론 활동 사례를 중심으로- = The Science-Related Attitudes from Adults’ Experiences during Science Cultural Activities: Focusing on the Case of Science Fiction Discussions

This study started with the awareness of the need to explore various aspects of science education and was conducted according to the necessity of practical research on science cultural activities targeting adults. Accordingly, adults’ book discussions of science fiction were selected as research cases, and science-related attitudes in science cultural activities were explored. There are four participants in the study, all of whom have engaged in a book club and have not majored or are working in science disciplines.
Three science fictions were selected after establishing specific standards for the selection discussed with participants. For four months, a total of three unstructured book discussions of science fiction, post-interviews for each discussion, and in-depth individual interviews after the end of the entire activity were conducted. Various data such as recorded and transcribed reading discussion discourse, post- and in-depth individual interviews, researchers’ observation records, and participants’ book journals were collected and analyzed using a continuous comparison method. As a result of the study, as scientific thinking is illustrated in SF, the participants also demonstrated scientific attitudes during their discussions.
In addition, the textual feature(storytelling) of science fiction was found to lessen cognitive overload and the burden of understanding science by providing scientific knowledge with context. Finally they demonstrated a shift in attitude toward science, valuing science cultural activities in themselves, rather than simply viewing science as a subject of understanding and learning. The conclusions and meanings of this study based on the above results are presented to enhance a positive attitude toward science for adults even after school education.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 과학교육의 다양한 모습을 탐색할 필요가 있다는 문제의식에서 출발하여 성인을 대상으로 하는 과학문화 활동에 대한 실천적인 연구의 필요성에 따라 수행되었다. 이에 성인 4명의 과학소설 독서토론을 연구 사례로 선정하고 과학문화 활동에서 나타나는 과학적태도와 과학에 대한 태도를 포함하는 과학 관련 태도를 질적으로 탐색하였다. 참여자들은 과학기술 전문가가 아닌 30대 직장인으로 독서와 토론 활동에 익숙하며 이를 취미로 즐기는 사람들이다. 작품 선정을 위한 구체적인 기준을 마련하고 연구 참여자들과의 협의를 거쳐3권의 과학소설을 선정하였다. 4개월 동안 총 3회차의 독서토론 활동, 각 회차에 대한 사후 면담, 전체 활동 종료 후 개별 심층 면담의 과정으로 진행되었으며, 독서토론은 자유롭게 논제와 의견을 제시하는비구조화된 자유토론으로 진행되었다. 연구 과정에서 녹음 및 전사된독서토론 담화, 사후 및 심층 개별 면담, 연구자의 관찰 기록지, 참여자들의 독서기록과 같은 다양한 자료를 수집하였고 수집한 자료들은지속적 비교 방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 참여자들은 과학소설 독서토론에서 과학적 태도를 발휘한 것으로 나타났다. 참여자들이 보인 과학기술 비판과 윤리적 성찰, 합리성에 대한 문제인식과근거 제시, 과학적 호기심 해소와 추론은 과학소설의 특징과 밀접한관련성을 맺는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 참여자들은 과학소설의 텍스트적 특징인 이야기를 통해 과학 이해에 대한 부담을 낮추고 흥미의발달을 보이며 과학을 즐길 수 있는 대상으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 참여자들은 이해와 학습 대상으로서의 과학이 아닌문화로서 과학을 즐기는 활동 자체에 스스로 의미를 부여함으로써과학에 대한 태도 변화를 나타내었다. 위 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는학교 교육 이후에도 성인을 대상으로 과학에 대한 긍정적인 태도를신장하기 위한 과학문화의 의미를 밝히고 시사점을 제시하였다.
