2-4세 일반아동의 자발화 표본크기와 평균발화길이의 비교 = The relationship of sample sizes and mean length of utterances for typically developing children aged 2 to 4 years

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Mean length of utterances(MLU) based on language samples is frequently used as a valuable estimate of young children‘s language development. It, however, is often impractical to devote the amount of time collecting, transcribing, and analysing the recommended number of utterances. The goal of this study was to demonstrate the consistency of MLU calculated across different sampling conditions(first 25 utterances, last 25 utterances, and quasi-random 25 samples from the total 50 samples). The quasi-random samples were based on every 2nd of the total utterances, and considered to more closely simulate clinical practices in real. Overall, the language samples were quite consistent across the difference sampling conditions. MLUs from different sampling conditions were not significantly different, and the results demonstrate that one can reliably and efficiently use MLUs on smaller language sample sizes. Implications and limitations for the efficient use of language sample analysis on smaller sizes are discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

자발화 분석은 아동의 구어표현능력을 평가하는 가장 유용하고 필수적인 지표 중 하나이다. 그러나 임상현장에서 자발화를 표집하고 전사하며 분석하는 데에 소요되는 시간으로 인한 현실적인 어려움이 있다. 본 연구는 50개 발화크기와 이보다 짧은 발화표본크기에서 분석한 형태소 및 어절에 따른 평균발화길이를 비교함으로써 짧은 발화표본크기에 대한 안정적이고 타당한 근거를 마련하고자 실시하였다. 2세에서 4세 아동 21명을 대상으로 서로 다른 세 가지 발화조건(처음 25개 발화조건, 나중 25개 발화조건, 준무작위 방식에 의한 25개 발화조건)에서 표집한 발화와 50개 전체발화의 구문지표를 연령별로 비교하였다. 그 결과 50개 발화를 형태소와 어절에 따른 평균발화길이로 분석하였을 때 2세와 4세, 2세와 3세 집단 간에 유의한 차이가 나타났으며, 발화조건에 따른 연령별 분석 결과에서도 동일한 결과가 나타났다. 반면 각 연령 내에서 발화조건 간의 차이는 유의하지 않았으며, 발화조건 간의 상관계수 또한 대부분 높게 나타나 짧은 발화크기에서 얻은 구문지표가 전체발화에서 얻은 구문지표와 유사한 특징을 보이는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 분석내용을 토대로 임상현장에서 짧은 발화크기를 어떻게 적용할 것이며, 그 한계점은 무엇인지에 관해 논의하였다.
