직업 분류 지칭어로서의 ‘군인’에 대한 사회언어학적 연구 = A Sociolinguistic Study on 'Gunin' as a reference form for occupations

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study has its primary focus on the analysis of the problems and the solutions on the matter of using the word "Gunin" as a referring expression. From the linguistic perspective, this study has verified that the use of the word "Gunin" as a referring expression contributes to the negative perceptions of soldiers in the Korean society, considering the "naming" directly affects the formation of the object's identity. This study has suggested the use of an alternative referring expression such as "Gukbangin" instead of "Gunin". Like all the other occupational categorizing referring expressions, the reference form "Gukbangin" has its basis on the tasks that the objects referred to carry out and can maintain the consistent application of the word. Also, in terms of securing the military identity, the reference form "Gukbangin" is a referring expression that helps the personal and public understanding of soldiers not merely as a person who works in the military, but a person who executes the national service of national defense. Although this study, from a linguistic view, has not dealt with the possible obstacles in detail created by this suggestion, it can bring up a conversation topic on how to change negative impression on "Gunin" of our people into the positive one and how to develop the military to be the one entrusted by the people.
