Welding is a most efficient and powerful process in assembling of various types of machinery parts. In a welding of parts, it is very important to obtain an adequate penetration, when back-up welding is impossible.
It is well known that the amount of penetration is determined by the factors such as welding current, are voltage and travel speed in bead-on-plate welding. But in actural joint welding, it is considered that additional penetration might be exist with the root-opening.
In this paper, the effect of root-opening is analyzed theoretically and is presented as formulas. Measrements of actural penetrations corelate well with the values which is expressed as follows.
P_A=K_1^3√(I^4)/(S.E^2)+K_2(b^2)/(S)
And analytical solution for the transient temperature distribution along the weld line on a spherical shell has been obtained.
Numerical values which have been obtained by computation shows a good agreement with the experimentally obtained values.
Therefore it is considred that the analytical result can be used in estimating the heat effect upon the material. But in practice pre-heat effect is negligible on account of the heat loss from the surface of the shell.
