한국의 정치적 전통과 이념: 가산제와 신념윤리를 중심으로 = The Korean Political Tradition and Ideas: In Terms of Patrimonialism and the Ethic of Conviction

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Since the independence in 1945, the Korean society has pursued its modernization by way of industrialization and democratization. Unfortunately, however, it has not been able to complete modernization and liberal democracy. This is the reason why Koreans are now discontent with their society. In the Korean society still prevail traditional social cultures such as patrimonialism and the ethic of conviction in the Weberian sense. In addition, there lacks Raison d’Etat and the ethic of responsibility which are necessary for the modern society. This phenomenon is common to East Asian states such as China and Japan. Not only rulers or superiors but also ruled or inferiors are all familiar with and even confirmed with those social cultures. As seen in the history of Western Europe, however, the completion of liberal democracy will be infeasible without overcoming the patrimonial social order and changing the ethic of conviction into the ethic of responsibility.
