산업정보화 시대를 거치면서, 여성들의 사회진출이 증가 되었다. 이로 인해 많은 영유아들이 부모와 함께 지내는 시간보다, 어린이집에서 생활하며 지내는 시간이 많아졌다. 그래서 보육서비스의 중요성은 날로 증대 되고 있다. 또한 정부는 자녀 양육과 교육은 가정의 경계를 벗어나 국가와 사회의 책임이라고 느끼고, 보육사업을 국가 핵심과제로 생각하였다. 그리고 부모들에게 보육료 지원을 하고, 어린이집은 클린보육을 정부가 외치면서 운영과 관련된 회계와 영역별 점검이 강화되었다. 정부의 어린이집 간섭으로 인해 어린이집 원장의 직무스트레스는 가중되었는데, 어린이집 원장의 역할과 직무는 매우 광범위하고 복잡해졌다.
본 연구는 어린이집원장의 직무스트레스에 미치는 관계를 인구사회학적 요인과 경력에 관한 특성을 독립변수로, 그리고 원장의 직무 스트레스를 종속변수로 하여, 독립변수와 종속변수간의 관계를 보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 두 변수간 관계를 규명하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 어린이집 원장의 직무에 관해 이해를 돕고, 어린이집 운영관리 시 필요한 직무 수행 평가, 직무 환경 개선, 원장의 현직교육 방향 수립에 필요한 기초 자료를 제공함으로써 어린이집의 효율적인 운영 관리와 영유아교육의 질 향상에 기여하고자 한다.
연구의 목적을 위해 설정한 연구문제는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 조상대상자의 인구사회학적 특성에 따라 원장의 직무 스트레스는 어느 정도인가?
둘째, 원장의 경력에 관한 특성은 원장의 직무 스트레스는 어느 정도인가?
본 연구의 구성으로 1장에서는 문제제기 및 연구의 목적 등에 대하여 기술하였으며, 2장에서는 직무스트레스에 관한 문헌연구를 실시하였고 3장에서는 어린이집원장의 직무스트레스에 미치는 연구 분석을 하였다. 그리고 4장에서는 실증분석 된 자료를 토대로 결과를 도출하였다.
조사대상자의 인구사회학적 특성의 연령, 소득, 학력과 경력에 관한 특성을 경력과 전공을 독립변수로 설정하고, 원장의 직무 스트레스의 관계를 종속변수로 설정하여 보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 자료 분석을 위해 SPSS 120 Package 프로그램을 이용하였으며, 구체적인 분석 절차로 조사대상자의 일반적 특성과 연구문제 분석을 위하여 빈도, 백분율, 평균 등을 산출하였다. 그리고 가설 검증을 위한 유의수준을 5%로 하였다.
연구대상으로는 어린이집원장의 직무스트레스에 관해 알아보기 위하여 서울시와 경기도에 근무하는 어린이집 원장을 대상으로 연구를 하였다. 지역적 한계를 둔 이유는 동일한 행정당국의 지도, 감독이 작용하며, 비교적 근무환경의 동질성이 있기 때문이다. 또한 서울시와 경기도 소재 어린이집원장을 조사대상으로 선정함으로써, 수도권 지역 어린이집 원장들의 직무스트레스 요인을 파악하고, 직무스트레스 요인을 제거하는 정책적 방안을 마련함으로써, 보다 현실적이고 효율적인 영유아와의 긍정적 상호작용으로 보육환경의 질적 수준을 높이기 위해서다.
본 연구에서 인구사회학적 특성에 따른 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 연령이 많은 원장은 컴퓨터의 사용의 어려움으로 인해 행정상 많은 어려움을 보이고 있고, 연령이 적은 원장은 원아 및 학부모의 관계, 교사 관계 등의 대인 기술의 부족 등으로 인해 스트레스 많이 보일 수 있다. 또한 소득에 따른 영향에서는 어린이집 원장의 소득이 많거나 적을수록 시설 및 설비관리에 대한 스트레스가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 적정한 소득이 이루어 져야만 원장의 업무 만족도를 높일 수 있다는 결과는 원장의 소득이 언제나 적절한 수준이 이루어 져야 아동 보육을 위한 재투자가 이루어질 것으로 사료된다.
셋째, 본 연구에서는 학력에 따른 직무스트레스 정도는 통계적인 차이가 나지 않았다.

어린이집 원장은 영유아와 가족 및 지역사회를 대상으로 통합적 서비스를 제공하는 기관의 책임자로서 조직 운영에 따르는 제반업무, 즉 교육철학 제시 및 교육운영계획 수립 운영, 평가, 영유아보호, 교육, 관리, 교직원임용, 훈련, 가정 및 지역사회와의 연계 및 교류, 예산계획 및 집행, 시설, 설비, 교재의 구입 및 관리 등의 직무를 수행한다.
유아교육의 질에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 원장의 직무요인은 여러 가지가 있겠지만 그 중에서도 어린이집 원장의 직무인식에 대한 정도와 직무스트레스 그리고 직무만족도가 큰 요인이라고 할 수 있다
최근 어린이집 원장의 업무는 보육정보시스템을 중심으로 다양한 형태의 사무업무, 학부모의 욕구, 안전과 위생, 아동교육에 대한 등 다양한 형태의 직무스트레스를 받는다. 특히 연령이 높은 원장은 행정적 업무를 실행하기 위해서 전산에 대한 많은 스트레스를 겪는다. 이에 따라 어린이집운영을 포기하고 이직을 하는 경우가 있다. 또한 한자녀 시대와 개인주의사상의 강화에 따라 어머니의 다양한 욕구가 강화되면서 원장의 스트레스는 더욱 높아졌다.
본 연구의 목적은 어린이집 원장에게 직무스트레스를 가중시키는 요인이 무엇인지 파악하고, 어린이집원장의 직무에 대한 이해를 돕고, 직무수행평가, 직무환경개선, 업무지원 체계에 필요한 기초자료를 제공함으로써, 어린이집 원장의 효율적인 운영관리와 보육의 질을 향상시키며, 직무스트레스를 최소화하며 직무만족도를 높일 수 있는 기초자료로 기여될 수 있기를 기대하며 본 논문의 의의를 둔다.
