This paper describes flow uniformity around the electrostatic precipitator (EP) installed in the bypass tunnel of road tunnel. Flow uniformity is an important parameter to enhance the efficiency of electrostatic precipitator. In the present study, EP system having a single-pass is considered and optimized for flow uniformity downstream of the EP. Optimization of EP system has been performed using response surface method and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. Two design variables, the distance between a inertia filter and a EP and the open area of inertia filter, are introduced. Throughout the flow optimization of the EP system inside the bypass tunnel, optimal distance between the inertia filter and the EP for making uniform flow downstream of the EP is found.
