This thesis analyzes J.S.Bach violin sonata No.1 in g minor BWV 1001 (Adagio, Fuga), L.v.Beethoven sonata for piano and violin in A Major op.12 No.2, S.Prokofiev violin concerto No.1 in D Major. op 19, focusing on the composers’ lives and historical circumstances along with major musical features of each work.
J.S.Bach violin sonata No.1 in g minor BWV 1001 Adagio part is composed of rather short 22 measures, polyphonic notes and monophonic notes in good harmony within the piece. The fuga part, relatively longer than the adagio part, is a work of intellectual structure and grandeur.
L.v.Beethoven sonata for piano and violin in A Major Op.12 No.2 was the first to be composed among the three works of op.12, based on the traditional classic form of Haydn and Mozart. The first movement, a typical sonata form, has fast and lively features. In the second movement violin and piano repeat the theme after each other. The third movement is composed in Rondo, with the rhythm having reminiscent of Minuet, lively and fresh overall.
S.Prokofiev violin concerto No.1 in D Major Op.19 is a special piece. This piece consist of Romantic melody and technical virtuosity. The piece requires rich reverberation through broad range along with sentimental expression of the performer. The uniformity between the solist and the orchestra is well found in the work.
