This article regards conflicts and misunderstanding as a problem that occur due to not smooth interactions in immediacy and nowness when a speaker and listener faces each other directly. Also, it suggests sympathy conversation as a solution to this, and it studies right educational methods for it.‘Sympathy conversation’is a education content that improves sympathizing skills of teenagers (middle school and high school students) who are the education targets in Korean education. It is suggested as an educational model through analyzing “teenagers’novels” that are about other teenagers’stories that make indirect experience and internalization common.
In chapter II, the concept and features of sympathizing communication were discussed through the references such as the current preceding studies, books, education plans; based on this, sympathizing communication methods such as ‘sympathizing listening’,‘I-delivery method’‘questions based on understanding’, ‘self-exposure’, ‘humor’, ‘memorizing sympathy’ are discussed with their features, benefits, and effects. ‘Memorizing sympathy’ communication especially is the analysis subject (study subject) in this article and considering that it uses novels, it is made after the ‘novel’ communication features are considered.
In chapter III and II, the methods of sympathizing method looked through theoretical consideration are they applied to teenagers’ novel “유진과 유진”; the features of sympathizing communication in complex relation such as relationship between characters and events’ flow are analyzed in details. How the relationship between characters around the main character changes through the events’ flow and how the frequency and depths of the contents of sympathizing communication change are assessed in details. The various aspects and importance of sympathizing communication from conflicts to resolution in the story’s development, and the attitude for ideal sympathizing communication are discussed in details.
Chapter IV is the main part of this article, and it suggests sympathizing conversation education model to achieve sympathizing conversation ability within teenagers as internalization that can be achieved from human relationship aspect, event’s flow aspect, and reading novel. It also suggests it as a conversation attitude aspect through theoretical consideration from chapter II and theoretic application after novel analysis from chapter III. Considering that the teenagers, who are the education subject, have parents-children and friend-friend relationship as their major relationship, sympathy conversation education methods are proposed to improve each one’s intimacy within their relationship. For parents-children relationship, the examples of the proposed methods are conversation that helps children solve their problems by themselves, honest conversation that helps children develop responsibilities, conversation that brings enlightenment in children’s visions through parents’ weakness and mistakes, and conversation that bring both parents and children’s satisfaction. For friend-friend relationship, the examples of the methods are conversation that share trusts by focusing on each other, conversation that improves mutual understanding by informing each one’s truthful mind, conversation that shares sympathy within same level, and conversation share delightful friendship and respect.
Afterwards, the sympathy conversation direction is proposed conversing the meta-message through a macroscopic and diachronic perspective that reflects conversations’ features in novels in the event’s flow aspect. In parent-children relationship, conversation with emotional advice that expands shared experiences between parents and children is suggested. In friend-friend relationship, conversation that lets each one grow by sharing experience and emotions is suggested. At last, the benefits and values of respecting conversation method in internalization and conversation attitude aspect is proposed; it improves intimacy within relationship by understanding each one’s language, and it develops mutual sympathy, and it also makes each reflect their own conversation ways and improve them.
Unlike the previous studies about sympathy conversation which are focused on ‘casual conversation’, this article discusses that sympathy conversation needs to be achieved in macroscopic and diachronic perspectives by focusing on ‘conversation’ in novels and considering the events’ flow and the complex relationship between conversations.
When only present is considered in fragmentary and synchronisch perspectives, conflicts and misunderstanding often happen. The value of the conversation analysis in novel from this article is sympathizing skills that are based on understanding and regards, considering the hidden aspects in relationships and conversations, despite of current conversations. Sympathy conversation education that shares warm affection will hopefully be improved to help teenagers improve as members of society who are going to lead this society in future with healthy minds.
