조선 팔도 식화지 연구 = Study on Records of the Products of the Eight Provinces of Joseon(朝鮮八道食貨志)

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 ‘조선 팔도 식화지’의 개념 규정을 마련하고 그 계보를 통시적으로 추적한 최초의 시도이다. ‘조선 팔도 식화지’는 조선 팔도의 연혁, 물산, 풍토, 인심 등을 각 도별로 기술한 글이다. 허목(許穆, 1595∼1682)의 「지승(地乘)」, 이익(李瀷, 1681∼1763)의 「생재(生財)」, 이규경(李圭景, 1788∼1856)의 「팔도의 이로움과 병폐에 대한 변증설〔八路利病辨證說〕」이 그것이다.
「지승」은 ‘조선 팔도 식화지’의 초기 형태에 해당한다. 아직 본격적인 식화지의 완성태에 도달하지는 못했고 지리지적ㆍ역사기록적 성격을 갖고 있어서 과도기적 양상을 보인다. 「생재」는 ‘조선 팔도 식화지’의 체재를 정립하고 ‘민’ 중심의 정치경제학적 논의를 본격적으로 개진하는 방향으로 확장되었다. 「팔도의 이로움과 병폐에 대한 변증설」은 「생재」 전문(全文)을 근간으로 하여 새로운 서술을 증보하는 방식으로 「생재」의 체재와 주제의식을 계승하여 발전시켰다. ‘조선 팔도 식화지’의 담당층은 남인 관료 지식인(허목)→남인 재야 지식인(이익)→서얼(이규경)로 확대되었다.

This paper is the first attempt to establish a conceptual regulation of “Chosun Paldo Sikhwaji”(朝鮮八道食貨志: record of the products of the eight provinces of Joseon) and track its genealogy throughout. Joseon Paldo Sikhwaji is an article describing the history, products, climate, and generosity of each province by province. Heo Mok(許穆, 1595∼1682)’s ‘Jiseung’(地乘: record of human geography), Yi Ik(李瀷, 1681∼1763)’s ‘Saeng Jae’(生財: production of goods) and Lee Kyukyung(李圭景, 1788∼1856)’s ‘Paloiro-byeonjeungseol’(八路利病辨證說: discussion on the benefits and harms of the people of the eight provinces of Joseon) are included in the category of “Chosun Paldo Sikhwaji”.
‘Jiseung’ is an early form of Joseon Paldo Sikhwaji. It has not yet reached its completed form and has a geographic character, showing a transitional pattern. ‘Saengjae’ established the structure of Chosun Paldo Sikhwaji and expanded in the direction of a full-fledged political economic discussion centered on “people.” ‘Paloirobyeonjeungseol’ inherited the structure and thoughts of ‘Saengjae’ by adding a new description based on the full text of ‘Saengjae’. The class scope of the authors of Chosun Paldo Sikhwaji had been expanded to Namin(南人) bureaucratic intellectual(Heo Mok)→Namin non-bureaucratic intellectual(Yi Ik)→Seo-ul(庶孼 Lee Kyukyung).
