Fast warm up of catalyst and combustion stability are crucial for the reduction of harmful emissions during cold start of an SI engine. Synthetic gas reformed from fossil fuel has hydrogen as a major component, it has abilities to enhance the combustion characteristics with wide flammability and high speed flame propagation. This study performed the injection of synthetic gas in exhaust artificial manifold to increase exhaust temperature during a cold-start period. Before engine bench test, this study tried to find the fittest synthetic gas injection point by measuring combustion temperature and visualizing flame in the exhaust manifold. This experimental is performed by changing the injection position of synthetic gas in exhaust manifold a density of oxygen, a quantity of synthetic gas, which is mixture of H₂, CO, and N₂ obtained by reforming hydrocarbon-based fuel.
