페터 춤토르 건축의 공간적 분위기를 통한 표리적 공간인식 연구 = A study on the 'Out & In-side' Spatial Perception through the Spatial Atmosphere of Peter Zumthor's Architectures

(Background and Purpose) The atmosphere, as the subject of aesthetic inquiry formed from a phenomenological background, is the comprehensive background impression approaching pre-reflexively. Peter Zumtor encountered the concept of atmosphere with the architectural space. Researches on the concept of atmosphere in Korea rely on foreign researches and require an original approach and interpretation. Under the assumption that it can be interpreted in different ways in the ideology of oriental and western cultures, this study aims to help the relational understanding of the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception by establishing the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception from the perspective of oriental spatial perception theory, grasping the relationship, thereby verifying it through the spatial atmosphere of Peter Zumtor's architecture. (Method) First, by understanding the 'Out & In-side' and atmosphere and grasping the relationship between the two, thereby laying the theoretical basis for the interpretation of the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception. Second, it presents relational elements and characteristics of the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception. Third, the spatial atmosphere is understood by the relationship of the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception, and the assumption is verified by grasping how the relational elements and characteristics in Peter Zumtor's architectures. (Results) First, the atmosphere is the property itself of the phenomenon revealed in the relationship between the subject and the objects. Second, 'Out & In-side' means 'having certain character or being in a certain state in the relationship between yin and yang or in the relational functioning of the movement of the subject and the phenomena of the object.' Third, the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception in terms of language is to sense the spatial phenomenon of the 'Out & In-side' relations of the subject and the object, and, in terms of phenomena, is the superposition of the emergence of 'Out & In-side' spaces, or the environment surrounding the subject while mediating the relationship between the subject and the objects, that is, the sensing of energy. Forth, the relational elements of the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception are Intuition, Layering, and Changes, and the characteristics are the reciprocity by the equivalent relationship, the unity by the relational cohesion of part and whole, and the continuity by the causal relationship. Fifth, the production of spatial atmosphere can be understood as the relationship and sensed through the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception. (Conclusions) Finally, the spatial atmosphere can be understood as 'SENSE' through the 'Out & In-side' spatial perception in oriental thought. This study is significant that it is the first study to interpret the perspective of the spatial recognition based on oriental thought as an atmosphere. It hopes to be contributed to revitalization of spatial perception research with various perspectives in the future.
