시적 정동의 관점에서 본 민중가요

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 ‘시적 정동’이라는 현상에 부합하는 민중가요들에 대해 살펴보고, 이러한 텍스트들이 어떠한 양상으로 다원성과 열림의 정동을 구현하고 있는지 살펴보고 있는 연구이다. 이 연구는 민주화의 열망이 강하게 분출되던 1970~80년대의 민중가요 중시적 정동을 보여주는 민중가요들에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 여기에서 ‘시적 정동’이란 단일한 의미 전달의 차원을 넘어 다원적이고 열린 의미를 생산하고 텍스트 수용자로 하여금 새로운 전이와 생성을 경험하게 하는 것과 관련된다.
정동과 시적인 것은 어떤 점에서 유사한 측면을 거느린다. 표상 이전의 정서와 이미지들을 포착하고, 잠재적이고 낯선 세계를 향해 전이와 이행을 거듭하는 가운데, 모호하지만 내밀하고도 풍부한 정서와 이미지들을 생성하는 데 자극을 주는 특성이 바로 시와 정동이 만나는 자리라 하겠다.
민중가요를 산문성 또는 목적성 중심으로 바라보던 기존의 시각에서 벗어나, 이 글은 민중가요의 시적이고 정동적인 측면에 주목함으로써 민중가요를 새롭게 바라보는 시각을 제공하고자 한다. 또한 이 연구는 민중가요를 이분법적으로 구분하던 시각(도피와 참여, 수동성과 능동성, 제도권과 운동권, 개인성과 공동체성)에서 벗어나 민중가요를 보다 다원화된 구조로 읽어내고자 하는 의도를 가지고 있다.
이 글에서 다루고 있는 텍스트들은 이미지의 다원적 전이와 시적 모호성에 의한 열린 정동의 가능성들을 내포하고 있다. 이런 관점에서 이 글에서 선택한 텍스트들은 풍부한 내밀성과 의미의 다원성이라는 측면에서 시적 정동의 관점에 부합하는 대표적인 사례가 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article is a study of protest songs that fit into the phenomenon of “poetic affect” and examines the ways in which these texts embody the affect of pluralism and openness. In particular, protest songs from the 1970s and the 1980s, when democratization aspirations erupted, are the focus of study. Here, “poetic affect” is concerned with the production of plural and open meanings that go beyond the conveyance of a single meaning and allow the recipient of the text to experience new transference and generations.
In some ways, affect and poetics are similar. The qualities of capturing emotions and images prior to representation and of stimulating the generation of ambiguous, intimate, and rich emotions and images in the midst of transference and implementation toward potential and unfamiliar worlds are where poetry and affect meet.
This article provides a new perspective on protest songs by focusing on their poetic and emotional aspects, away from the traditional view that protest songs are prosaic or purposeful. By doing so, it moves away from the binary division of protest songs—i.e., escape and participation, passivity and activism, institutionalization and activism, individuality and communality-to read protest songs as a more pluralized structure.
The texts discussed are characterized by their pluralistic transference of imagery and poetic ambiguity, which opens up the possibility of an affect response. From this perspective, these texts are representative examples of poetic affect in terms of their richness of intimacy and pluralism of meaning.
