Each minority ethnic group that immigrate to the United States creates unique cultural context by combining its native culture with American culture. However, the family support system for families of children with disabilities in the United States target the mainstream population Therefore, these programs may not be effective for the families of children with disabilities in minority ethnic groups. The purpose of this study is to identify the experience of Korean-American families of children with disabilities who live in American society in order to suggest how to offer effective family support for Korean-American families of children with disabilities. Ecological theory was used as a theoretical framework for this study that examined the experience of five Korean-American immigrant mothers raising their children with disabilities. The in-depth interview method was used to collect the data that was analyzed by constant comparative method. Through the data analysis, four main themes were emerged: 1) the experience due to language difference, 2) the experience for disability and education system, 3) the experience due to the perspective difference for disability, and 4) the experience for life in American society. Each main theme consisted of sub-themes. The language difference had four sub-themes including the loss of social competence, the disadvantage from daily routine, the difficulty in raising children with a disability, and the dissatisfaction with translators. The sub-themes of disability and education system were affluent social support and the improvement of social support. The sub-themes of perspective difference for disabilities were Korean society's perspective and American society's perspective of disabilities. The advantage of life in American society and the difference between expectation and reality belonged to the life in American society. The result of the study suggested the necessity for research into the needs of minority ethnic groups who have children living with a disability and cultural differences in the United States. In addition, future research direction for the minority ethnic groups was suggested.
