Diversification of materials and its shape is important in materials science and can be a strong tool for various applications. Especially in orthopedic and dental research area, materials have been confined in hydroxyapatite and β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP, Ca3(PO4)2) as inorganic ceramic materials for bone replacement or regeneration. whitlockite is a kind of calcium phosphate existing in natural bone tissue and contains Mg. Mechanism and the important roles as well as the applications of WH have not been fully investigated due to the difficulty in synthesizing single-phase WH nanostructured materials. Here we report easy and simple method to synthesis whitlockite by using hydrothermal method and synthetic conditions for morphology control.
