The artifact drawing using 3D scans is another evolution of electronic drawing. It is an alternative that can add accuracy and speed to the actual measurement of relics, which account for a large proportion of excavation reports, and it is an alternative that can fill the lack of professional drawing personnel. For this reason, professional companies, industry-academic cooperation institutions of universities, and cultural heritage excavation institutions are actively introducing it. Recently, a series of papers have been published in the archaeological world introducing artifacts drawing using 3D scans and 3D scanners suitable for the characteristics of artifacts. Just as Rome was not built in a day, 3D scans did not suddenly appear. For this purpose, this paper first summarized the research history on the 3D scan work. This paper examined the current status of artifact drawing systems and digital rubbing processes using handheld 3D scanners and 3D operation software, and recorded advantages and limitations. In addition, we introduce a case in which the 3D scan data post-processing program is applied to restore and draw the laminar armour, bronze iron, and earthenware with only a part left. The relic system using 3D scans has many advantages in many ways, but it is not perfect in all ways. Data cannot be obtained in areas where light does not penetrate in the 3D scanner, and it is difficult to create a drawing because the artifact production technique, which is the fundamental purpose of the drawing, is not identified. Therefore, it is only possible to create high-quality drawings with the participation of experts and the proficiency of workers.
