This paper analyzes the operating performance of three-phase wye connected induction motor which is connected to a single-phase source. Symmetrical component theory is used to derive the performance equations of the motor with a single capacitor as the static phase converter. The condition for cancelling negative sequence component of the stator terminal voltage is used to find capacitance of the capacitor. Using this capacitor, the performance characteristics in the whole slip range are computed and analyzed.
