The Human Genome Project began in 1990 as an international effort to characterize human genetic instruction by creating a genetic map that reflects the position of genes on chromosomes. This current advances in decoding and understanding the human genome have profound implications for people's health and quality of life. Cancer genetic counseling has become discuss owing to the recent development of genetic tests that pinpoint familial cancer risk. It is composed of risk assessment and counseling regarding behavioral, medical and surgical options to decrease risk. A basic goal of cancer counseling is to derive and explain an individual's cancer risk in clear terms and the counselor's role is to educate and enumerate options for patients and clinicians, answer questions regarding what is known and suggest appropriate referrals to help reach difficult decisions. Therefore, genetic counseling program for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer is extremely important to educate oncologists nurse providers including psychiatrists, psychologists and oncology nurses who have a knowledge of cancer genetics as well as oncology and support the counseling system.
