In this study, shift characteristics of a dual clutch transmission(DCT) are investigated. DCT consists of 2 clutches. One clutch is connected with the input shaft where 1, 3, 5, R gears are attached meanwhile the other clutch is connected with another input shaft where 2, 4, 6 gears are mounted. Shift characteristics are investigated based on the dynamic models of the DCT and the synchronizer, and the simulation results are compared with the conventional manual transmission. It is found from the simulation results that the DCT provides faster shift time due to the pre-select mechanism and transmits the power during the shift, which results in the improved velocity response compared to the manual transmission.
