컨버전스 관점으로 본 가전제품 디자인 특성과 동향 연구: 국내 가전사례를 중심으로 = Study on Home Appliance Design Characteristics and Trends from the Convergence Perspective: Focused on the Home Appliances Industry in Korea

Background Home appliances, which used to be called white appliances, have recently been making repeated attempts to stimulate consumer sentiment. Although diverse types of convergence are occurring in the industry from conceptual to functional and physical convergence, systematic and analytical studies that try to understand these phenomenons are lacking. Therefore, this study aims to establish a base of convergence study related to home electronics products.
Method First, research on the history of Korea‘s home electronics and convergence design has been studied through a literature review. Next, case studies were done to discover specific convergence phenomenons. Lastly, by apprehending the purpose and frequency of the phenomenons, the overall design trends were derived.
Results 5 convergence types were derived: functional convergence between electronics, physical convergence between electronics, convergence between ICT technology, convergence between fashion, and convergence between furniture. According to the purposes, convergence in the home appliance industry could be classified differently.
Conclusion This study is meaningful in terms of discovering specific convergence phenomenons of modern home appliances and trends from the perspective. Concerning and applying different types of convergence will be needed within a home appliance design process.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

연구배경 백색가전으로 불리던 가전은 최근 소비자의 감성 요소를 자극하기 위한 시도를 거듭하고 있다. 이때 ‘가전의 가구화’와 같은 개념적 컨버전스부터, 기능적, 물리적 컨버전스 등 다양한 유형의 융복합 현상이 가전 산업에서 일어나고 있으나, 이를 체계적으로 분석하고 이해하기 위한 디자인적 연구가 미흡하여 본 연구를 통해 가전제품 영역에서의 컨버전스 관련 연구의 기초를 확립하고자 한다.
연구방법 먼저 문헌 연구를 토대로 국내 가전의 역사와 컨버전스 디자인에 대해 고찰하였다. 또한 사례 조사분석을 통해 가전제품의 디자인 요소와 특징을 파악하여 가전 산업에서 이루어지고 있는 컨버전스 유형을 세분화하였다. 마지막으로, 각각의 컨버전스 현상의 목적과 빈도를 파악해 가전제품의 디자인 동향을 고찰하였다.
연구결과 가전 제품군 내 컨버전스 현상은 가전 간 기능적 컨버전스, 가전 간 물리적 컨버전스, ICT 기술과 컨버전스, 패션과 컨버전스, 가구와 컨버전스 총 다섯 가지 유형이 관찰되었으며 가전의 지능화, 맞춤화 그리고 경험 확장의 목적에 따라 그 구분을 달리 할 수 있다.
결론 본 연구는 현대 가전의 디자인적 이해를 돕기 위해 가전의 컨버전스 현상을 분석하고 이를 통한 동향을 살펴본 데에 의의가 있다. 가전을 기획하고 개발하는 데 있어서 컨버전스라는 디자인 수단의 목적을 명확히 하고 다양한 컨버전스 현상을 복합적으로 고려 및 적용하려는 시도가 필요할 것이다.
