Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate correlations and predictive variables between ethical awareness and protecting patient privacy among caregivers Methods: A survey was taken with 86 caregivers and 64 patients. Data were analyzed by using SPSS Win. Ver. 17.0 program, frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression Results: The degree of protecting patient privacy by caregivers was higher than the level of protecting patient privacy perceived by patients. The more educated caregivers were, the more ethical awareness they had and the higher level of protecting patient privacy they showed. The more ethical aware caregivers the higher level of protecting patient privacy they showed. The data from protecting patient privacy showed the predicted variables of ethical awareness and educational background have 25% explanatory power in caregivers Conclusion: Based on these findings, the study proposed that nurses should develop a step-by-step program to help caregivers increase their ethical awareness and an intervention program to influence protecting patient privacy. In future, it is also needed to conduct research on predictor variables affecting protecting patient privacy repeatedly in caregivers
