This thesis studied the postcolonial and the Third Space by examining the chronotope of the early korean modern novels. The Postcolonial is the third location beyond the binal oposition between imperialism and nationalism. The early korean modern novels show the process of the appearing the Third Space beyond the limitation of nationalism. The narrative of nonseol included ideal nationalism and it abandoned itself to grief. And Tears of blood and pitiless abandoned itself to colonial nationalism in stead of happy ending. But Hyn Sang-Yoon` novel and Yang Gun-Sik` novel discovered the absent sphere getting out of colonial power. Following them, Yum Sang-Sub tried to create the Third Space from the absent sphere. The another genealogy of discovering the absent sphere getting out of colonial power appeared from the novelists examining the local area. Hyun Jin-Gun and Jo Myung-Hee discovered the site of the other and the absent spere from the devastated home in the local area. They created the Third Space from the devastated home in the local area forming survival desier. These two genealogies of creating the Third Space are two postcolonial locations in the early korean modern novels. They show the process of creating new national culture in the Third Space.
