에릭슨의 "생식성"개념의 의미에 대한 인류학적 검토 = A Reconsideration on Erikson`s Concept of Generativity: Its Conceptual Shifts from 1950`s to Early 1960`s

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 소고의 목적은 1950년대와 1960년대 전반에 걸쳐서 에릭슨이 제안한 generativity(생식성) 개념의 형성과정을 고찰함으로써 이 용어가 갖는 의미를 명확하게 밝히는데 있다. 생식성이란 용어는 에릭슨이 평생주기론에서 ‘성인기’를 특징짓는 심리사회적 감각을 표현하기 위해서 만든 개념이다. 1950년에서 1980년대에 걸쳐서 그가 이 개념을 반복하여 언급하고 있는데, 이에 대한 설명이 시간이 지남에 따라 조금씩 변화를 보이고 있음을 알 수 있다. 본 소고에서는 1950년에 그가 프로이트의 이론을 발전시켜 이 생식성의 개념을 형성하였는데, 1960년대 전반에서 세대주기와 같은 입장을 도입하면서 생식성의 의미내용이 비약적으로 중대한 과정올 밝힌다. 스스로 자신의 자식을 생산하는 것, 즉 ‘성기기’가 가져다주는 귀결으로서의 생식과 관련된 것으로 시작된이 생식성의 개념은 제시될 때는 생물적인 개념이었으나 점차 단순한 생리적 심리적 차원올 넘어 문화적 철학적 차원에서 차세대를 생산하는 능력을 포함 하는 다양한 의미를 포함하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 기본적으로 생식성이란 차 세대를 생산하는 것, 무엇이든 부모적인 책임에 전념을 다 쏟아 어떤 대상을 만들어 내는 것에 그 의미를 두고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to clarify the meaning of the term "generativity" which E. H. Erikson presented from 1950`s to early 1960`s, by examining the process of its construction. The term was first proposed by Erikson to characterize the psycho-social sense of adulthood in his life-cycle theory. He treated this concept repeatedly from 1950`s to 1980`s, but its expositions show gradual shifts in scope. This study finds that he constructed the concept of generativity from S. Freud`s psycho-sexual theory, but he phenomenally expanded the scope of its meaning by incorporating a new perspective of human generational cycle in the early 1960`s. The concept of generativity started out as a biological one to be related to procreativity as a consequence of genitality or to spontaneous procreation of one`s offspring, but gradually it became more inclusive to also mean the ability to produce a next generation in a cultural and philosophical sense which is beyond the simple physiological and psychological consideration. Basically generativity means the procreation of the next generation and creating an object, whatever it is, by concentrating the whole attention under the parental responsibility.
