The purpose of this study is to find out the role of the textbook in
solving the killer problems that are classified as high-level questions in
the Korean-Scholastic Ability Test (K-SAT) and to suggest how to
promote public education for students to be able to solve those problems
through it. We conduct our study based on '나' and 'A' type of
mathematics area of the K-SAT, analyze the killer problems of the
K-SAT in the last five years, and study three kinds of textbooks in view
of thesis problems.
In this thesis, we analyze in three steps whether the killer problems can
be solved only with the contents presented in the textbook. With the
conclusion that it is hard to solve killer problems in K-SAT only with
textbooks, a survey was conducted on 30 mathematics teachers to get
some solution to improve classroom education using textbook.
The result of the survey gives us two messages: Firstly, textbooks
should be revised to assist student’s problem-solving abilities with
reasoning skills, and to facilitate convergence among various concepts.
Secondly, it is required to promote customized studies, to adjust the
difficulty level of the K-SAT, and to create a collaborative environment
among parents, teachers, universities and the government to boost public
confidence on public education.
