러셀의 기술이론과 그에 대한 스트로슨의 비판 = Theory of Descriptions: B. Russell and P. F. Strawson

국문 초록 (Abstract)

러셀의 기술이론은 분석적 전통의 핵심적 논의 주제였고 현재까지도 논의되고 있다는 점에서 지난 100년 동안의 언어철학에 큰 전환점이 되었다고 할 수 있다. 이 논문의 목적은 기술이론을 그 의미론적 측면에서 검토하는 데 있다. 그런데 기술이론은 많은 부분을 프레게의 의미론에 의지하고 있다. 따라서 프레게의 의미론을 먼저 살펴본 다음, 러셀이 프레게의 의미론의 어떤 점을 수용하고 어떤 점을 거부하는지를 살펴본다. 나아가 러셀의 의미론이 기술이론에서 어떻게 작동하는지도 살펴본다. 그런 다음 사용 개념에 입각해서 기술이론을 비판하려는 스트로슨의 입장을 음미한다. 이 둘 사이의 요점을 음미하다보면 러셀과 스트로슨은 상이한 언어관을 갖고 있음을 알 수 있다. 그렇지만 그러한 언어관의 차이는 근본적으로 그들의 철학관의 차이, 그리고 진리관의 차이에서 일어난다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Russell’s Theory of Descriptions has become one of the Archimedian points in the philosophy of language during the past 100 years, to the extent that it was and is key issue in analytic tradition. This paper aims to examine what is Russell’s semantics in his Theory of Description. But the theory is depending on Frege’s semantics in various aspects. Thus it needs to be examined Frege’s one frist, and Russell’s later. Furthermore I consider how Russell’s semantics is working in his theory. And then the point of Strawson’s view is examined that attempts to criticize the theory by concept of use. Finally, we will see that there are two different kinds of the views of language for them. But we will see that the difference is caused by their views of philosophy and by their views of truth.
