Existing systems for hypermedia retrieval by direct manipulation or browsing let users navigate through choosing the retrieval path for the desired target object. So it has problems such as disorientation and cognitive overheads. In this paper, we propose a direct access method using visual query to solve such problems. If user specify his/her query for the desired target object retrieval by visual expression, system performs the Visual Reasoning on it and matches it with schema. and then generate a code and retrieve, so that can solve the problem of disorientation and cognitive overhead.
We propose a Visual Reasoning method which interpretes the meaning of a visual expression into a specific code to retrieve the hypermedia objects. We make it possible for the user to query their own question despite of not knowing the structure and interrelation of information, and extract the information space consisting of the desired information from visual query using knowledge base. In the course of visual query processing, we make a query graph as a means for semantic matching which is the matching of visual query concepts with the concepts of internal schema, and map individual visual concept to the concept dependent on schema through semantic reasoning. We can make the execution code through a traversal of the query graph and then extract the query space by doing the executing code.
