New Directions for Teaching Korean in the Changing Media EnvironmentKim, Dae-haengThe addition of contents for media in the Curriculum of subject Korean marks the importance of the influence of changing environment in language life. It may also be a signal to examine the purposes, contents and methods of teaching Korean. It raises problems, too, as there are different assumptions concerning the point of view about language. The way of renewing of directions for the teaching Korean has to be found in the proper understanding about the nature and functions of language.This essay briefly defines the nature and functions of language and explores the main approaches to the teaching of subject Korean for the future. There is then an examination of the role of Korean and the model of Korean teaching suggested by the addition of the contents of media, and a definition of problems which are raised rather than solved by the revision of curriculum.For renewing of teaching subject Korean, the important points are as follows；a) general－improve the view of language, examine the division of the domains, put emphasis on the thought domain, organize the teaching contents regard to grades. b) contents－put emphasis on the significance of knowledge, stress on the thought process, intend personal growth through meaningful experiences, emphasize the attitudes for the personal subjectivity.c) methods－set up aims for humanistic education, develop cannonical teaching materials, instruct through the form of student-centered class, assess through students attitudes.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

매체 환경의 변화와 국어교육의 방향김대행새로운 교육과정에서 매체언어를 내용으로 포함한 것은 매체 환경의 변화가 언어생활에 그만큼 중요함을 뜻한다. 그러기에 이러한 변화는 국어교육의 목적과 내용 그리고 방법에 대한 전반적인 재검토가 필요하다는 신호가 된다. 특히 언어를 좁게 정의하고 바라보는 시각에 대한 재검토가 필수적이다.이 글은 언어의 본질과 기능을 살펴 이를 기반으로 미래 지향적인 국어교육이 나아가야 할 방향을 탐색하는 데 초점을 맞추었다. 그러기 위해서는 교육과정에 의해 해결되었다기보다는 오히려 새로이 해결되어야 할 과제로 떠오른 국어교육의 내용과 방법을 매체언어의 추가라는 새로운 변화를 중심으로 살폈다.국어교육이 바람직하게 나아가기 위해서는 다음 사항들이 고려되어야 한다.가) 총론：언어관의 쇄신, 영역 구분의 재검토, 사고 영역의 재조명, 교육 내용의 위계화.나) 내용：지식의 교육적 의의 중시, 사고 중심의 수행, 의미 있는 경험을 통한 성장, 주체성 확립의 태도.다) 방법：인간교육을 지향하는 목표 수립, 정전 수준의 교재 개발, 학생 중심의 수업, 태도 중심의 수행 평가.
