내러티브 비평으로 본 바로의 민족말살정책 - 출 1:1-14을 중심으로 = Narrative Criticism on Pharaoh's Genocide - Focusing on Exodus 1:1-14

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 출애굽기 1장에 나오는 바로의 조치들 중에서 첫째 조치의 목적을 내러티브 비평방법에 따라 분석하여 각 절의 상호관계를 밝히려는 목적을 갖고 있다. 이스라엘의 급격한 인구증가는 궁극적으로 이집트 왕에게 큰 걱정거리를 가져다 주었으며, 이런 걱정으로 인해서 이스라엘 자손은 노예로서 고역에 시달리는 신세가 된다. 그렇지만 이런 강제노역은 당장 생길 수도 있는 적군의 침입에 효과적으로 대응하는 방법이 될 수 없다는 것을 본문의 분석결과 알 수 있다.
더 나아가서 바로의 이스라엘 자손에 대한 강제노역 조치는 출애굽기 2장에 나오는 모세의 탄생 이야기와 직접적인 관련이 없다는 것이 이 연구결과 분명해졌다. 왜냐하면 바로의 강제노역 조치는 남자만을 죽이려는 의도가 없으며, 이를 통해서 전쟁에 나설 수 있는 성인남자들을 급격하게 줄일 수 있는 조치도 아니기 때문이다. 출애굽기 1:1-14의 본문에 나타난 바로의 인구정책은 갑자기 늘어난 이스라엘 자손의 인구와 그들의 강함에 대한 대응조치였으며, 이스라엘을 구원할 영웅의 탄생을 기록한 2장의 내용과의 연관관계를 우선적으로 생각할 수 없다는 것을 보여준다. 출애굽기 1장 15절부터 기록된 산파들을 통한 인구 억제 정책에서야 비로소 모세의 탄생 이야기와의 직접적인 연관성이 발견된다는 것을 이 연구는 보여준다. 바로의 걱정을 통해서 또한 이스라엘 자손의 출애굽 사건이 역사적 사실로 성취될 시간이 다가 왔다는 것을 성서본문은 보여주고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to explore the plausible purpose of Pharaoh’s first measure in Exodus 1:1-14 by using narrative criticism. The fact that each verse does not seem to match one another needs to be explained in order to understand the flow of the whole narrative. The logical explanation would be preferable because the biblical writer must have worked with such a coherent stream of mind.
The mention of Joseph in v. 5b is to relate the death of Joseph and all of his generation in v. 6. It also makes a reasonable connection with the rise of the new Egyptian king who does not Joseph in v. 8. Furthermore, the mention of the number 70 in v. 5a seems to contrast the population increase of the Israelites depicted in v. 7. The name Joseph makes the whole narrative of vv. 1-14 in one complete story in the first place.
The new situation develops in terms of Israel’s tremendous increase of population and becoming strong. When the Pharaoh recognizes this situation he concerns with two things: the Israelites' joining with enemy in the time of war and eventually going out of the land of Egypt. The hypothesized war in the mind of the king and possibility of Israel’s going out of the land are very difficult to explain. However, going out of the land foreshadows the event of Exodus. The writer makes the king say this as the upcoming event of Exodus.
The king’s measures of the forced labor could make the Israelites so tired that they could not fight against Egypt at the time of war. It could also prevent them from going out of the land because of lack of motivation. Then the king keeps those Israelites’ labor force and utilizes them to construct the store cities and other buildings.
The birth of Moses is not connected with the kings’ first measures because this measures is not to kill the infants but the grownups. Also the forced labor can kill both men and women at the work places. The tradition of the slavery with forced labor in 1:1-14 is not related to the tradition of Moses’s birth. Only the second and third measures are definitely connected with Moses’ birth.
