허수경 시의 공간 양상과 내면의식 = The spatial aspects and inward Consciousness of Poems by Su-gyeong Heo

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to examine the spatial aspects and consciousness of Heo su-gyung and analyze the sources of inner consciousness that stimulate his plane of poetry. All the values she earned in her life come into shape through the poetic space, thereby making the process of such introspection a very important step into analyzing the poetic world and comprehending the subject. Therefore, the research considers the problem of looking upon Heo su-kyeong’s poetic space a very important matter, and analyzes her consciousness and point of view about space such as ‘Hometown’, ‘City’, ‘Station’.
His hometown is the space that controls Heo su-gyung's sense of self.
Having left his hometown twice, Heo su-gyung embodies the specific sites in her hometown in her poetry to reach her home. Then, she reconstructs the hometown by mobilizing all the images that remain in her memory. Her self's willpower to return home is the driving force, a motivation behind the creation of the poetry. Therefore, though her wounds of childhood manifest and sadness that cannot be returned to continue on, Heo su-gyung continuously embodies the space of hometown in her poetry. This practice that Heo su-gyung conducts stems from his self-consciousness to return to the source itself. Next, Heo su-gyung projects the emotions of anxiety and the sense of loss into the urban space. Heo su-gyung's inner self cannot settle in one place in the city as she roams the streets within the city. As a result, the city manifests as the space which reflects the empty voidness of her inner self that feels the loss. The streets of cities gradually lose their physical spatiality.
The manifestations of uncertain self-consciousness and self-denial lead to turning urban space into a site of abstract contemplations. In the end, in the collection of poems published before Heo su-gyung's departure from life, a variety of spaces are provided that reveal existential awareness and an awareness of death. Her inner self, which has wondered around in the urban areas, now focuses on the specific space called "reverse." The "reverse" is a place of existential exploration in which Heo su-gyung's inner self cannot escape, and is the representation of the moment when the unfortunate existence of death is recognized.
Combining these aspects, the meaning of space in Heo su-gyung's poetry is far from being simple. Her hometown is the driving force behind Heo su-gyung's consciousness that preserves her inner self, and the urban space represents the feeling of loss felt by her inner self as the return to hometown becomes impossible. It is a space that exemplifies the isolation and alienation from the reality that her inner self experiences. Heo su-gyung's tragic recognition of the return's impossibleness develops into existential reflection and a specific demeanor that a person who recognizes death would possess. Finally, the "reverse" becomes the final stage of Heo su-gyung's life, both as a space for the loss of the identity that her tragic inner self goes through and a space of confronting death.
